Look Fantastic Beauty Box: July 2015

Standard

image

After failing to be wowed by the last couple of Look Fantastic Beauty Boxes, I was beginning to think that I had found a definite contender to ditch so I could try to curb my expensive Beauty Box habit…then I unwrapped these little treasures! With a great mix of face, body, hair and make up products there is sure to be something that appeals to everyone, with some new brands to explore alongside some more established ones. Here’s a closer look at the box contents:

Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Purpose Dry Oil for Face, Body and Hair

image

Regular blog readers will know two things about me. Firstly, I adore Nuxe products. Secondly, I received the gold shimmery version of this oil in the May Look Fantastic box and I loved it. I mentioned in that review that this standard oil version was also available and I would consider buying it as it is cheaper. Well I didn’t get round to buying it but now I won’t have to for a while! The oil is great for nourishing and softening the skin, so I plan to use this non-shimmery one on tough areas such as my elbows, as well as applying a layer to my face whenever my skin is feeling particularly tired, dry and stressed out.

Balance Me Pure Skin Face Wash

image

Balance Me is a regular brand on the Beauty Box circuit and that is fine by me. I have had the opportunity to try several great products from their range without ever having to buy any of them individually! This face wash is suitable for normal to combination skin. I usually err on the side of caution when trying new face products and go for ones for sensitive skin, but since Balance Me use 98% natural ingredients in their products and because I have tried other products from the brand before, I felt safe using this. It’s a no-nonsense, water based cleanser that is simply applied with your hands and removed with warm water so it is great for chucking in your wash bag for overnight trips or for using to quickly remove make up and grime when it’s late and all you want to do is get to bed. The sample is a generous 50ml size so it will last you quite a while too.

Monu Skincare Firming Fiji Facial Treatment Oil

image

This firming facial oil looked great and I was really excited to try it until I read the usage instructions and they said that it was unsuitable for nut allergy sufferers! I have used products containing nut derivatives before and been fine, but I have also suffered a reaction before so I am always wary. The fact that the product expressly advised against me using it was enough to convince me not to which is a shame. For those of you not cursed with a nut allergy though, this oil claims to be all you need to firm and tone tired or dehydrated skin, and is suitable for dry or sensitive skin types. Sounds great!

Kebelo Clarifying Shampoo

image

Now here’s a novel idea! This shampoo is billed as the ‘ultimate detox’ for your hair and should be used once or twice a month to deep cleanse, rejuvenate and revive your locks. I often think that my hair suffers from the fact that it is almost constantly up in a ponytail for work, only being let down to be quickly brushed then scraped back again! Every so often it’s nice to feel like I am giving it a little treat, which is why I am a fan of occasional hair masks. The idea of a shampoo which will work in a similar way to revive and restore tired hair is a new concept for me but one that I am excited to try! Unfortunately the shampoo advises that it may lift colour slightly and I am planning on dying my hair tonight, so I will be waiting a couple of weeks before I give it a go.

Trilogy Everything Balm

image

Coincidentally, I was actually considering purchasing a pot of this from Naturisimo when I was browsing the site a couple of weeks ago! This soft balm melts on contact with the skin and can be used anywhere on the face or body that needs a bit of a moisture boost. It is particularly good on chapped lips, dry, cracked heels and the rough skin on elbows. I have been using it on the dry patches on my knees to try and smooth them before attempting to apply some fake tan at the weekend and it is working like a dream! At £12.50 for a 45ml pot it’s great value if you are in the market for a multitasking product like this, but this 10ml pot should last me quite a while anyway.

Lord and Berry Nude Lip Liner

image

Make up products have been depressingly thin on the ground in some of my latest boxes so I practically jumped for joy when I saw this offering from a brand that I really like, Lord & Berry. I was in the market for a new lip liner and the fact that this is a nude shade means that it’ll work with a number of lipsticks from my collection. The pencil doesn’t drag and the formula is creamy and smooth. I used it alongside my Bourjois Rouge Velvet Lipstick in ‘Beau Brun’ and it complemented it perfectly, making the end result much neater and long lasting than it would be had I not used the liner.

Well that rounds off what was largely a very impressive offering from Look Fantastic. Just as I began to doubt them, they managed to reel me back in!

Look Fantastic Beauty Boxes are available at the beginning of each month and can be purchased as and when you want them, without the need to subscribe. They are £15.00 including P&P. Get yours at http://lookfantastic.com

Look Fantastic Beauty Box: June 2015

Standard

image

This month’s Look Fantastic box brought a major feeling of déjà vu. I knew that I had received the Balance Me Hand and Body Wash before but I was hoping that it was from one of my other subscriptions. Sadly no, I did indeed receive the very same product just two months ago in my April Look Fantastic box! Upon closer inspection of the information card supplied within the box I discovered that this was one of a few options that could’ve been included so it was bad luck that this is the one that I received, but it is obvious from the review comments on the website that many customers were in the same boat. I think it is a bit lazy of the company to churn out the same product again so soon. Could they not have used another product by the brand at least?
Anyway, rant over, let’s get on to the contents of the box. I will start with a brief few words about the Balance Me Hand and Body Wash in case you weren’t a visitor to my blog two months ago!

image

Don’t get me wrong, Balance Me is a great brand and is a regular feature in many of my Beauty Boxes. This product is great, especially since it is a generous 100ml full sized tube. It has a lovely citrus scent, foams well and is kind to the skin. Balance Me use predominantly natural ingredients too and their products are cruelty free. Win.

Next up is the Nuxe Crème Prodigieuse Anti-Fatigue Moisturizing Cream. First things first, I love Nuxe so I was expecting great things from this moisturiser. It is formulated for normal to combination skin but it didn’t cause my often sensitive skin any problems. It is quite a luxurious cream yet it absorbs well into the skin without leaving any greasy residue and it has a pleasant fragrance. All in all I was pretty impressed but I am not really in the market for a new moisturiser at the moment so I won’t be rushing to purchase it just yet. Let’s say I’ll keep it in mind for when I am!

image

I have used a few products by Caudalie before, including this Complexion Correcting Radiance Serum. I applied before moisturiser as instructed and it did appear to give my tired looking skin a bit more life. My main problem is that I’m not really sold on the use of any serum as an essential part of my skincare regime so I just can’t bring myself to spend £45 on one.

image

I was pleased to see this REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask sample since I have seen the product around and was interested in trying it. I do love a good face mask to refresh my skin at the end of the week! The problem was, when I read the instructions on the back of the tube they stated that it wasn’t suitable for sensitive skin and as someone who has experienced quite a few annoying flare ups from skincare which didn’t agree with me, I decided it just wasn’t worth the risk. I will be passing this one on to my mom to try!

As someone with fair skin and naturally fair hair, the sun is not exactly my best friend and I am prone to sunburn and sun stroke unless I am really careful. It goes without saying that I use protection on my skin when out in the sun but I’ve got to admit that I don’t always take as much care with my hair. Amongst other things, this Label. M Protein Spray provides your hair with UV Protection. It also provides protection from the heat of styling products and can help to detangle your hair post-shower, leaving it more manageable. Its really quick and easy to spritz a bit of this spray onto damp hair before styling as normal and I will definitely be adding it to my routine for it’s protective benefits. The generous 50ml sample should last me a while but when I am ready to restock, £13.25 for 250ml on http://lookfantastic.com seems reasonable to me.

The final product in this month’s box is the Murad Rapid Collagen Infusion. I was intrigued by the promise of a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in 2 hours. Since I turned 30 I have certainly thought about the ageing process a bit more and started seeking out various anti-ageing skincare and make up products but I am still in the preventative phase at the moment since I am lucky that I don’t have that many wrinkles yet. Still, I gave this a go and it really did have a plumping effects, making my laughter lines and the creases on my forehead seem less pronounced. The full sized product isn’t cheap though at £65 for 30ml and in light of the fact that my slight lines and wrinkles can be disguised quite effectively with my minimal everyday make up I don’t feel the need to invest just yet. I will stick with the preventative creams for now.

Overall I did feel a bit let down by this month’s box. In spite of the fact that I welcome trying new skincare products and brands, I don’t get the same thrill seeing those as I do make up items, and sadly this box contained none. I was also disappointed with the fact that the REN mask was unsuitable for my skin type and by the duplicate Balance Me body wash. I did love the Label. M and Nuxe samples though so there’s a silver lining somewhere!

The Look Fantastic Beauty Box can be purchased at the beginning of each month as a one-off purchase costing £15 with free delivery. You can also choose to take out a 3 month plan for £35, saving yourself £10. For more details or to get your box, check out http://lookfantastic.com

Look Fantastic Beauty Box: May 2015

The thing I love about this Beauty Box is the fact that it ships at the beginning of the month so I don’t have to wait so long for it as my subscription boxes! There is always a really varied selection of products in it as well so you could never say that it is predictable! This month’s box contained a mixture of products that I usually use and welcome new samples of, and things that I have never really been all that interested in but in the interests of providing an informed review for the blog I have set about trying each of them out anyway!

First up, the Omorovicza Thermal Cleansing Balm:

image

I was immediately struck by how lovely the little pot was (I know looks don’t count for everything but if a product looks pretty on your dressing table that’s a bonus!). Next I was impressed by the box’s claims that the balm enables the absorption of minerals from the healing waters of Budapest by the epidermis for firmer, suppler and younger-looking skin. Sounds good to me! I have never heard of the brand before, in fact I don’t know of any skincare products from Budapest so it was a great opportunity to try something completely new. I have since discovered that the brand is much sought after and respected so I am even happier with the balm’s inclusion in the box. When I opened the pot I was surprised to see that the balm had a really thick texture, so much so that I really had to dig the tip of my finger in to get a decent amount of the product out to smooth onto my face. This consistency does mean that I am sure to get a good few uses out of this sample pot though! As I applied the dark grey balm I got a fresh, earthy aroma. I can only imagine that the mineral filled healing waters of Budapest look pretty murky! I used my Konjac Sponge to ensure that all of this goodness was rubbed deep into my skin, then rinsed. My skin certainly felt soft and smooth after applying this balm but at £46 for a 50ml pot I would really have to fall in love with it in order to purchase the full sized version and I just didn’t feel strongly enough.

Next up I tried out the Erno Laszlo Night Serum:

image

I have mentioned before that I have begun to take extra care of my skin since turning 30 so night cream certainly does feature in my skincare routine these days. The problem is that I have already found a couple of products that I adore for this purpose, so anything new would really have to blow me away to take the place of them. This is such a small sample and although it does say in the instructions that you only need to use a small amount, I don’t think it’d last me long enough to get a good enough picture of what it could do for me. Plus, price comes into the equation again here too; this serum costs an eye watering £161.25 on Look Fantastic’s website! While I love the fact that I am getting the opportunity to try luxury brands like this, I can’t realistically expect to be able to afford to treat myself to the full sized version.

Moving on to the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Or; Multi-Purpose Dry Oil for Face, Body and Hair:

image

I LOVE Nuxe products! In fact, their Nuxellence Detox Anti-Ageing Night Cream is the product that I currently use , so I was excited to try out another of their products. The golden shimmer in the product looks a bit off putting in the bottle but once you apply it to your skin it is quite subtle. This would look lovely slathered on your limbs when you have caught a bit of sun to give you a lovely glow. I also like the idea of using it on my hair  since it promises that your locks will become supple, glossy and full of volume. This seems like a great multipurpose product which is a nice way to pep up tired looking skin by providing much needed moisture and sheen. It isn’t horrendously expensive either (£21 for a 50ml bottle). You could also add this product to your regular body lotion or moisturiser for a glowing look which helps the bottle stretch even further. I will definitely consider purchasing this one. If you like the idea of the multi-purpose oil but the shimmer doesn’t float your boat, the regular dry oil is also available for £17 for 50ml.

Next up, the Christophe Robin Regenerating Hair Mask:

image

Although I am not a hair product obsessive, I’m a sucker for the occasional intensive treatment whether it be for my face, body or hair so I didn’t mind giving this one a try. I have actually received quite a few hair masks in beauty boxes lately and in spite of the initial disappointment that I always feel when I realise they are hair masks and not face masks, I enjoy using them. This is the full sized 50ml pot which retails for £10 so it definitely adds to my satisfaction about the value for money of this month’s box. You simply apply the product after shampooing, lather, leave for 2-3 minutes then rinse so its not time consuming and it leaves your hair feeling really silky and smooth. A great product to use a couple of times a week, particularly if you use a lot of product on your hair or it is heat damaged from straighteners etc.

Also included in the box is a full sized tube of Tanworx by Monu Self Tanning Lotion:

image

I am not a huge fake tan devotee. I simply find things like that too much hassle. That being said though, when the warm weather comes and I want to rock my denim boy shorts or a girly dress I don’t want to be worrying about the state of my pasty legs so I am glad to have a product like this in my arsenal. It provides an instant, natural looking tan and the colour intensifies over a period of 3 hours. It is recommended that you use a tan mitt to apply and although this isn’t included they can be picked up relatively cheaply from places like Superdrug and Boots. I have one already from another tanning same that I received so I am all set once the sun decides to make an appearance again! As with any tanning product, exfoliating any dry skin and moisturising beforehand is crucial but otherwise this lotion seems like it will be pretty hassle free to apply. Even for a novice like me! Monu is a respected skincare brand so I feel safe in their hands.

The final item in this month’s box is a set of Eylure Pre-Glued Lashes:

image

I have to admit I have never experimented with false lashes before. Yet another product that is too much hassle for a lazy person like me! I don’t like the ‘fake’ look and when you can get an amazing effect using just mascara these days I don’t really see the point. If I were to experiment though, (and I will for the sake of making use of every item in the box!) I would definitely choose a product like this. Eylure is a tried and trusted lash brand and the natural look and self adhesive strips on these ones make them seem like they’ll be pretty painless to apply.

So that’s the round up of the products included in Look Fantastic’s May Beauty Box. You can get yours now for the one-off price of £15.00 (plus free delivery) at http://lookfantastic.com
