So Susan Lip Love Bag: July 2015

Standard

image

The So Susan Lip Love bag is definitely one of my top subscriptions and this month’s bag was a particularly good one. I love that this subscription is all about the make up, and So Susan and Jelly Pong Pong are great quality, cruelty free brands so these bags always represent great value. Here’s a closer look at the goodies that I received in July’s bag:

So Susan Lip Dome in ‘Mango’

image

I received one of these plumping lip tints in a darker shade last month and I was pleased to see another one this month. This is a lovely orangey red shade that really brightens up your face. It can be layered for a more intense colour, feels comfortable on the lips and smells lovely too! As I have mentioned in previous posts, these lip tints aren’t that long lasting, but the crayon-like design allows for easy application of touch ups.

Jelly Pong Pong 2-in-1 Eyeliner & Shadow

image

This is a great time saving 2-in-1 eye pencil in a universally suitable shade of brown. Application is smooth without dragging and it can be used to create bold lines, or easily smudged for an all over wash of colour. A nice staple to have in your make up bag!

So Susan Liquid Powder Shadow Palette in ‘Radiant Glow’

image

I received another of these cute little palettes in a previous bag and it has become one of my go-to products. This one is just as impressive. The shadow colours are quite muted and subtle, yet most of them contain a bit of shimmer and look really pretty when applied. I particularly love the shimmery white shadow, which looks amazing when applied to the tear duct and blended on top of any of the other shades on the lid.

Jelly Pong Pong Glow Getter Luminizer Gel

image

I love the nail varnish style presentation of this highlighting gel! The dinky little bottle can be easily stowed away yet it will last you for quite a while because you only need to use a little of the product in order to achieve a healthy glow on your cheek and brow bones. This would look great paired with a good bronzer to give your skin a really healthy, sunkissed glow.

The bag also contained the usual bonus gift, this month’s being a ‘stay connected’ ring, which you can see in the main image. Unfortunately the ring is a bit cheap looking and isn’t really my style of jewellery anyway so I will probably end up binning it but the bonus items are certainly not a main draw of the bags so I am not really bothered that I won’t be getting any use out of it. Other than that, I thought that this month’s line up of products was stellar, and they will definitely all become regular features in my make up bag!

Subscription to So Susan Lip Love costs £14.95 a month. For more information on the subscription or on any of the individual products featured, visit http://sosusan.com

So Susan Lip Love Bag: June 2015

Standard

image

Like My Little Box, So Susan was also hit with a supply issue last month, meaning that I only received my June Lip Love bag a couple of days ago. I’ve had time to try the products out now though and there are some beauties here. I won’t have to wait as long for my July bag now either. Yay!
Here’s a closer look at what was included in the June bag:

So Susan Lip Dome in ‘Blackcurrant’

image

I received one of these Lip Domes in a different shade a few months back and they are great to slick on when you’re in a hurry. They provide quite a strong matte colour whilst also being hydrating and giving your lips a slight plumped up look. The formula isn’t particularly long lasting so touch ups are required throughout the day but it feels comfortable on your lips so that isn’t really a problem. I like the rich berry shade as an alternative to the girly, sometimes sickly sweet summery colours that I have seen around a lot at the moment.

Jelly Pong Pong Bare Necessities Highlighting Pencil

image

There always seems to be at least one highlighting product in the Lip Love bags every month! This is a great multipurpose crayon can be used as an eyeshadow base, waterliner and concealer as well as a general highlighter so it is a useful addition to your make up kit. It is emollient based so it blends into the skin easily and is good for disguising light blemishes and dark circles. It is also good for giving you a fresh faced, wide eyed look when used as a waterliner.

Jelly Pong Pong Paradise Pigments Lip/Cheek Cream in ‘Cake Pop’

image

This lip and cheek cream looks disconcertingly vivid in the pot but you only need a small amount on both lips and cheeks to provide a pretty splash of colour. I applied it with my fingers and coloured my lips first, only adding the product to my cheeks when there was only a little left on the end of my finger to ensure that I didn’t end up looking like I’d been slapped in the face! It has the formula of a lip balm so it is easy to blend into your skin. I quite liked the effect of using the same shade on both my cheeks and lips when it was subtly applied and it is a hassle free way to get a nice fresh faced look in no time at all.

So Susan Cashmere Blush in ‘Rose Chiffon’

image

This clever powder blush feels like a cream upon contact with the skin, and can actually help minimise the appearance of large pores and absorb excess oil leaving your skin looking glowing and flawless. This shade is subtle enough for everyday use and really does feel great on your skin. My only problem is that I have received a lot of various blushes lately and I am not a particularly big fan of them. As blushes go though, this one is a goodie and as always with So Susan, the packaging is gorgeous so its definitely a product that I wouldn’t mind being seen with!

Also in the bag this month is a pair of Infinity Drop Earrings. So Susan regularly include an accessory or item of Jewellery as an extra little subscribers gift. The earrings are a cute coral colour and although I’m not exactly overwhelmed by them I might get some use out of them with a pretty sundress on a sunny day.

Well that’s it for the June bag. I am continually impressed with the quality of So Susan and Jelly Pong Pong products and as a make up lover it’s great to receive a subscription that is entirely make up based, particularly when a lot of my other subscriptions have been lacking in that department lately. The only problem is that some of the products are starting to feel a bit repetitive. I appreciate the same product but in a different shade, like the Lip Domes, but multiple variations of blusher month after month will definitely start to get tiresome soon.

So Susan Lip Love Bag: May 2015

Standard

Well this month’s Lip Love review has been a long time coming because unfortunately my bag went missing in the post! After waiting the maximum recommended 10 days for delivery and checking with my local Royal Mail delivery office to make sure it wasn’t lurking there, I emailed the So Susan customer service department yesterday to tell them it had not been delivered. I received a prompt and courteous reply in which they apologized for the situation and promised to send out a replacement immediately and lo and behold, the new package arrived at my door this morning! I have had experience with the customer services department of this company before and they really are second to none, I can’t praise them highly enough! Since they were good enough to send it to me immediately I thought it only fair that I tried out all the products straight away and give you my verdict!

So, on with the review. This month’s theme is ‘I Love Vacations’ (or ‘Holidays’ to my fellow Brits and I!) and contains 4 make up essentials to get your skin glowing as well as a cute little anchor bracelet as a bonus gift. First up I tried out The Beauty Crop Lighting Crew Highlighting Cream:

image

This cream provides a lovely iridescent glow when applied to the cheekbones, browbone or any other area you wish to accentuate. It really helps to perk up your complexion and make your skin look healthy and bright. It looks quite dark in the tube but it creates a lovely natural effect when you put it on.

Next, Jelly Pong Pong Play Paint in ‘Damson’:

image

This nourishing lip colour is super pigmented and is a beautiful vibrant pinky-peach colour. Just right for a relaxing holiday in a Tropical climate! It goes on easily with your fingers although you may want to use a lip brush for a more precise result. I really loved the shade and the product has a delicious fruity scent which further adds to it’s charm.

So Susan Light Diffuser Illuminator & Bronzer Duo in ‘Cocoa Dust’:

image

I love the fact that every So Susan compact comes with it’s own little mirror built into the lid! I also love the fact that this cocoa coloured bronzer comes complete with a cocoa scent. Delicious! The shade itself is a little dark for my taste although I imagine it would suit those with darker skin tones or who already have a bit of a tan. The illuminator is a lovely gold colour so it works well alongside the bronzer (or your own bronzer if like me this one is the wrong shade for you!). It’s another lovely little product from So Susan, and I am certain that I will get some use out of the illuminator powder side even if I don’t brave the bronzer.

So Susan Crème Couture Soft-Focus Cream Blush:

image

This cream blush is in a flattering Terracotta shade which I imagine would suit most skin tones as the colour can be built up as much or as little as you want. It is easy to apply and blend into the skin and leaves you with a fresh faced, rosy glow. The inclusion of a blush as well as a bronzer means that you can chop and change your look according to your mood or the occasion. I personally tend to favour blush for a more natural daytime look and bronzer for evening glamour.

The final item in May’s bag is this adorable bracelet:

image

In keeping with the holiday theme this nautically inspired bracelet features a sweet little anchor charm. I love the cheery yellow thread and it is perfect for a casual summer daytime look.

Although not all of the products are to my taste, this is another strong Lip Love bag overall. I love the fact that this subscription focuses mostly on make up, and the brands on board are all of high quality and cruelty free.
As always I am very much looking forward to my next bag!

So Susan Lip Love Bag: April 2015

Standard

image

I’ve got to say I really am loving this subscription! As I mentioned in my previous So Susan post, I opted to receive the March bag when I began my subscription at the beginning of this month because I liked the look of the contents and didn’t want to miss out. However, I wasn’t sure whether it was being sent instead of or in addition to the April bag and I didn’t want to miss out on that one either! An email to customer services via the So Susan site was met with a quick response explaining that I would next be billed 10th May for the May bag but should I wish to also receive the April one they would be happy to process the payment and dispatch it immediately. I jumped at the chance and this lovely little package dropped onto my doormat just a couple of days later. I really appreciate a website with efficient customer service so this experience has made me love So Susan even more! Anyway, onto the contents of the bag:

image

The first item that I tried out was the Colour Hybrid Velvety Lip and Cheek Mousse in ‘Marsala’. On first application I wasn’t expecting such a strong colour and I accidentally squeezed way too much out of the tube! The hole at the end of the applicator is quite big so go easy when you squeeze otherwise you will end up getting the product everywhere. Start with a little and add more if required. After a bit of tidying up with the help of my trusty Micellar water I was quite taken with the result. You definitely need to give it a bit of drying time but when it has set in place it really brightens up your face with a lovely deep cerise colour and it smells nice too. This doesn’t stay in place as well as a stain (it did leave small traces on my glass as I drank and the colour definitely faded noticeably throughout the day, though didn’t disappear completely) though neither does it suck all of the moisture from your lips like some stains seem to. I think that if you used a lip brush for a more precise application then this is a nice product in a lovely fun but wearable shade and I will definitely be adding it to my lip colour rotation. I would be wary of using it as a cheek colour though! I think the shade might be a bit too dark for that.

Next up I tried out the 8- Hour Cheek Stain:

image

This cheek color takes the form of an easy to apply jumbo twist stick and is in the quite soft pink shade ‘Fiery Earth’. This is designed for quick application and it is pretty much the right size for a quick stroke over the apples of your cheeks followed by a bit of blending to soften the edges and you’re good to go. It gives a nice healthy flush of colour for a more natural alternative to bronzer. I don’t usually use blusher very often but I am planning to add this to my weekday make up routine to brighten up my face a bit on dreary mornings at work.

If you’d prefer a bronzer you are also in luck, because the generous people at So Susan have included bronzer in this bag too:

image

This Jelly Pong Pong Caribbean Sun Bronzer Duo in ‘Aruba’ provides you with two wearable bronzer shades, one a peachy shade and the other a deeper, darker tone. Since this duo is a dinky handbag friendly size it is a bit difficult to get a full sized brush into it so I opted to use my fingers to apply the individual shades and also tried sweeping my usual bronzer brush over both shades to combine them. This gave a nice healthy glow and will probably be the way to go when applying the product in the future. I liked the fact that the product is matte so you’re not left with an unnatural looking shimmer that you can get with some bronzing products. This is a striking effect for a night out but can be a bit ridiculous when you are going for a more natural daytime look so I am grateful that this product contains no shimmer.

I was very excited about the next product out of the bag, Wonderlight Luminizer + Brightening Base:

image

This is a double sided product which can be used as a concealer, eyeshadow primer and highlighter. The shade, ‘Pink Glow’ is perfect to use to highlight cheek and browbones and in the inner corner of your eyes for a wide awake look and the traditional looking concealer stick side can be used as an under eye concealer as well as on the lids to create a crease proof base to prime the lids and make your chosen eye colour more long lasting. This really is a wonder product and I have used it several times as part of my AM routine, disguising my dark circles a little with the concealer before I apply my BB Cream and highlighting the inner corners of my eyes to make me look a bit more well rested than I actually feel!
These are available individually on the site priced at £11.95 and I can definitely see myself purchasing a replacement when this one runs out, though it is a generous size so hopefully that won’t be for a good while yet!

The final product in the April bag is these cute hair clips:

image

These cute flowers are attached to ever-useful Bobby Pins so they can be easily added to an up-do to give your usual style a bit of interest. I may give them a try during the summer months for a sweet, summery look although it’s more likely that my 3 year old niece will take a fancy to them before then and I will end up giving them to her! Likewise, if they aren’t your style personally I’m sure you will know a little girl who would be more than willing to take them off your hands!

So Susan Lip Love Bag: March 2015

Standard

image

If you’re particularly interested in Make Up So Susan Lip Love might well be the subscription for you! This is my very first bag and I’m really impressed with it. They are shipped from America but prices are displayed in Pounds Sterling, delivery is super quick and its included in the monthly price so if you are based in the UK like me this shouldn’t put you off subscribing.
Each month your goodies arrive in a cute little themed bag which would make a lovely gift (whether you decide to also give away the contents or keep them for yourself is up to you!) or could be used to stash your essentials for a weekend away.
When I subscribed I was given a choice of which bag I wanted to start my subscription from and since I liked the look of the contents of March’s travel themed bag I chose to start with that, hence this March review in April!
You should expect to receive a selection of products from So Susan’s own make up range as well as Jelly Pong Pong and other affiliated brands, so its all good quality stuff. First out of the bag was the so Susan Lip Dome:

image

This is a plumping lip tint in the shade ‘Rhubarb’, a lovely bright pinky red. It is easy to apply, leaves a strong colour and lasts well. It also smells lovely! I have noticed that there have been other shades included in previous bags and I would welcome another of these chunky lip crayons in a future bag.
Next up is Jelly Pong Pong Fairy Lashes Curl mascara:

image

It has a pretty standard looking, small brush which makes it easy to get underneath your lashes and curl them upwards. It goes on smoothly without clumping and lengthens lashes well in addition to providing a slight curl. Apply one coat for natural looking, fluttery lashes or build up the volume for a more dramatic effect. I quite like the sleek maroon coloured tube too!

The Beauty Crop blush duo is up next:

image

This little pot contains one cream and one powder blush in the shade combo ‘Papaya don’t Preach’. I love the idea of providing both options within the same compact and the built in mirror in the lid is a great touch too. Both shades are really wearable and would look good on most skin tones. I’m not much of a blush girl really but I tried a bit of the pink powder on the apples of my cheeks and it gave a nice healthy looking glow.

The next treat, a So Susan liquid powder shadow palette is described as a bonus product and it’s certainly a welcome one:

image

This is the ‘Gatsby Girl’ palette and it includes both matte and sparkly shades in really wearable colours. I tried out the neutral peachy matte shade at the top and used the sparkly violet one on the bottom right as a liner. It created a lovely, summery look. I am really pleased with this compact and I can see it becoming a go-to product for me. There is a handy little strip mirror on the inside of the lid for in the go application and touch ups too!

The final item in the bag was this little bracelet:

image

I always enjoy receiving bonus surprises in my subscriptions and I thought this was really cute. Its a nice chunky style and gives provides a casual look for times when you feel like there’s a little something missing from your outfit but don’t want to go too OTT with jewellery! If its not your style its a sweet little gift to give to someone else!
Well that’s it for my March Lip Love review, I’m very much looking forward to my next package from So Susan!
